In September 2014 Roadchef was sold to Antin for £153m. This kick-started an aggressive improvement plan over there 21 sites that is set to challenge the top 2 operators for the crown of Britain’s best motorway services provider.
Sedgemoor South services has undergone a £4m pound investment. The challenge for Roadchef was to create a flagship site that would help shape a blueprint for all future development undertakings. Welcome Break the current leader in the marketplace had introduced some large video walls to their top sites, but Roadchef wanted to go one step further and see just how far this concept could be taken.
AR Media’s solution started with a brief to create brand new UHD video content that would highlight the new look and excellence in class that this massive investment would bring to the brand. It then became apparent that a new solution to control this UHD Video wall would need to be created to bring their total vision which included dynamic content layout changes from fullscreen to multi-screen mixed content delivery that included an integrated Sky Box feed would have to be built from proof of concept up. So, with just 8 weeks to complete both the hardware deployment and content creation the race was on the write brand new code with software partner Dynamax and realise a world first.
Finally, our fully managed services of ongoing content creation, deployment, training and 24/7 system hardware and software support completes the end-to-end offering.
The grand opening attended by all the top Antin executives was a great success. Roadchef CEO Simon Turl commented:
You see a vision in your mind but rarely does the end product live up to it. The wonder wall has exceeded anything that I imagined.
The installation has expanded to include external advertising and is now generating revenue in its own right increasing the R.O.I. and paving the way for self-funding future projects.
